Expanded Eligibility & Benefits
VA Benefits for Disabled Florida Veterans
The Department of Veterans Affairs and the State of Florida both provide additional benefits for disabled Veterans in relation to the VA financing and homes they purchase.
Almost every Veteran whose disability condition was a result of injuries incurred while in service is eligible for a VA mortgage, even if they were not able to serve the minimum number of active duty days required.
These benefits for disabled Florida Veterans are available to eligible Veterans, as well as to unmarried surviving spouses of an eligible Veteran who died in service or as a result of service-related injuries.
What Is a Disabled Veteran?
A disabled veteran is someone who served in the U.S. Armed Forces and was awarded a service-connected disability rating by the VA. Ratings range from 0% to 100% in 10% increments (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, etc.), with 100% as the highest possible rating. In Florida, any disability rating 10% and over will gain you real, substantial benefits.
There is one type of disability rating that trumps them all: the designation “Permanent and Total”. The VA applies this designation to veterans whose disability is both total and “not expected to improve”. With P&T status, you will be awarded the best Florida disabled veteran benefits available.
Overview of VA Benefits for Disabled Veterans in Florida
Florida veteran disability benefits operate at two levels: federal VA benefits and state benefits. You receive both. The two benefits add up.
This is what the federal VA benefits include for all rated disabled veterans:

- VA home loan guaranty, including a funding fee waiver for all rated disabled veterans.
- Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment (VR&E).
